Overview
Course Description
Business & Entrepreneurship explores business basics, leadership skills, and organizational functionality. Students learn how Christ-centered objectives can result in a successfully run business. The fall semester covers basic business operations, such as accounting, human resources, and business law, while the spring semester explores marketing, management, and leadership. Students will hear from past and current entrepreneurs about their triumphs and challenges, and will also connect with a local small business for hands-on learning.
Prerequisites
No prior knowledge of business & entrepreneurship is required. Students should be able to read and write at a 10th grade level.
Students Will Learn
- How to create a comprehensive business plan with a vision and mission statement
- How to identify current and potential legal challenges for businesses
- How to understand the benefits of strong and effective leadership in a business setting
- How to understand biblical teachings on money and business
- How to cultivate excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
- How to understand accounting and financial concepts as they relate to business operations
- How basic economic principles play out in the context of specific businesses and industries
Live Class Sections
Business & Entrepreneurship is a yearlong course. Registration opens in late February.
What to Expect Weekly
We estimate that the course workload will take 5–7 hours per week. During a typical 2-week module in this course, students will complete the following coursework:
- 60 minutes of weekly live class instruction
- 20–60 minutes of a video lecture
- 30–60 minutes of business podcasts or presentations
- 30–60 pages of assigned reading
- A variety of projects, such as one to two page writing assignments, spreadsheet projects, slideshow presentations, or other assignments
- Discussion forum participation
Students complete a midterm exam or project, a final exam or project, and various homework assignments.
