Newton Quan, High School Classroom Teacher for AP CalculusMaster Teacher

BS, University of California, Irvine

Newton Quan earned his BS in applied physics from UC Irvine. In order to pursue a career in teaching, he received his California Teaching Credential from CSU San Marcos and renewed it at UC San Diego.

Newton has been teaching math and science since 2005. He started his career in education at the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, CA. From there, he moved on to Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, CA. He is currently teaching Advance Mathematics, Physics, and Honors Physics at Escondido Charter High School in Escondido, CA. He is passionate about teaching math in a way that is fun (a play on the friction equation, F = uN) and helping students discover its relevance in the real world.

In addition to teaching AP® courses, he has been an ETS Reader for the AP® Physics exam. When not in the classroom, he can be found either volunteering at his church's nursery or coaching lacrosse, football and soccer. Most recently, he has started a self-defense/martial arts club for his students.

Newton developed AP® Calculus AB and Physics with Lab for the Academy and serves as the Master Teacher for both. He has been teaching with the Academy since 2016.
