Tricia Schmittendorf, High School Classroom TeacherClassroom Teacher

MA, University of the Cumberlands
BA, Union College

Tricia Schmittendorf earned her bachelor’s degree in education with a social studies minor and an English major from Union College. Originally a music major, while teaching at an eastern Kentucky boarding school, she realized her calling as a classroom educator.  Throughout her teaching career, God has broadened her horizons with teaching experiences in all grades.  However, the one she most identifies with and enjoys is high school English with all its communication abilities, descriptive words, and remarkable figurative language used to communicate in a variety of circumstances.  She earned her Master's degree from the University of the Cumberlands as a reading specialist and furthered her graduate education at Morehead University.

Tricia has taught in public and private schools, administered a home school business at all levels, and coaches middle and high school academic teams. What is most fulfilling to her about teaching is making the reading/writing process accessible and demystifying the methods of research and argument for all her students, especially the ones who vowed they would never be able to write anything. She enjoys watching them take ownership, craft their thoughts, and work out ideas on paper.

Tricia lives in eastern Kentucky with her husband as they continue serving at a private Christian school.  In her spare time, she enjoys cross-stitching, knitting dishcloths, opening their home to friends and family, and serving as worship leader in their church.  In the midst of her educational calling, being a disciple of Jesus Christ and building relationships with others helps her distinguish the importance of glorifying the Father through communications.
