English & Writing

This course introduces students to secondary English studies. Students study grammar, syntax, and writing basics within fiction assignments while developing their personal writing voice.

This course gives students a solid foundation in writing, grammar, and literature. Students experience all stages of the writing process (planning, composition, editing, and revision) while learning how to analyze short literary works. This course is NCAA-approved.

Essay Writing Workshop is an 8-week immersion in the writing process for high school students. In a supportive, collaborative environment, students craft one essay from Step A to Step Z, learning key concepts in grammar, style, and citation along the way.

English 1 introduces students to high school level English. Students learn to be effective readers, writers, and thinkers while also connecting the study of English to God, Scripture, and the Christian life. This course is NCAA-approved.

This course teaches students how an author’s viewpoint is impacted by time, location, and culture. Students who complete English 2 are well-prepared to communicate with diverse perspectives and excel in higher-level humanities courses. This course is NCAA-approved.

This course introduces students to the American literary tradition, and equips them to reflect on the collective American experience. Students learn how history impacts literature, and thus become more sophisticated writers, readers, and thinkers. This course is NCAA-approved.

This course teaches students the skills needed for confidence and success in college-level academic writing. Assignments prompt students to consider elements of composition at the highest level, providing practice and instructor feedback to ensure students can use them with sophisticated control—and improve scores on the AP Exam. This course is NCAA-approved.

This course teaches students to critically read British literature, take ownership of their ideas, and generate thoughtful theses for argumentative essays. Students who complete English 4 are well-prepared for college writing and literary analysis. This course is NCAA-approved.

This course introduces students to literature at the college-level and equips them for advanced literary study. Assignments prompt students to analyze and write with sophisticated style while preparing them for the AP exam. This course is NCAA-approved.
