Jackie Horton
Jackie Horton completed her BA in English at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). In addition, she earned her MA in Classical Studies from the University of Wales Trinity St. David (UK).
She taught Classical Latin at Trinity Pacific Christian School in Thousand Oaks, California, and she directed its Latin program for 13 years. She also taught high school English at Apple Valley Christian School in Apple Valley, California. Currently, she teaches exclusively online in order to be at home to help care for her aging mother-in-law.
Jackie is excited to share her love of grammar and excellent literature with students across the country. Between homeschooling for twenty years and teaching high school English and Latin in a professional capacity, she brings decades of experience to her courses.
What bearing does Latin have on English? The influence of the Latin language may be seen throughout the development of the English language. Latin roots comprise many advanced English words, and Latin syntax provides a key to understanding English grammar and sentence structure. Using her knowledge of this relationship, Jackie hopes to inspire and cultivate effective writers and communicators for the glory of Christ.
Jackie loves to study apologetics, read historical fiction, and learn how to use food as medicine. She also enjoys running, biking, skiing (water and snow), and just generally being outdoors in the sun with her husband and best friend of more than 30 years. Jackie resides in California.
Jackie has taught at the Academy since 2016.
