Algebra 2
Overview
Course Description
Algebra 2 builds on the concepts covered in Algebra 1 and Geometry. Students use algebra to analyze data, and discover how algebra reflects the orderliness of God and the regularity of His created universe. Similar to Algebra 1, Algebra 2 emphasizes real-world examples and applications to demonstrate the theory of functional relationships—for instance, students learn that the speed of a satellite is a function of the diameter of its orbit. Through this method of instruction, students observe how these theories operate in a concrete manner.
Prerequisites
Students should successfully complete Algebra 1 and Geometry before taking Algebra 2. For help determining if your student is ready for this course, please use our self-graded Algebra 2 Readiness Test.
Students Will Learn
- How to create matrices from data and perform matrix operations
- How to solve quadratic equations and polynomial functions.
- How to understand the relationship between radicals and fractional exponents
- How to convert between exponential and logarithmic equations
- How to solve and graph rational expressions.
- How to understand the basics of probability and statistics

Algebra 2 is a yearlong course. Registration opens in late February.
What to Expect Weekly
We estimate that the course workload will take 5-7 hours per week. During a typical week, students will complete the following coursework:
- 90 minutes of live class instruction
- 3 recorded lectures
- 30 homework problems per lecture (self-graded)
Throughout the year, students complete a quiz or test every 2-3 weeks as well as an exam at the end of each semester.

- Students planning on taking AP® Calculus or higher level math courses will be better prepared for those future courses by choosing a handheld calculator such as the TI-84.
