Web Design: HTML, JavaScript, and UX

This Web Design course teaches students to use emerging technologies to create purposeful, user-focused websites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, graphic design, and UX best practices. Students gain an understanding of both the technology and design principles behind effective web communication.

Course Description

Web Design: HTML, JavaScript, and UX introduces the creative and technical skills used to build modern websites. Students use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript while creating vector graphics and other digital assets. They apply user experience (UX) principles such as usability, accessibility, and audience awareness. Students also examine emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, through a Christian perspective emphasizing wisdom, honesty, service, and Kingdom purpose.

Prerequisites

There are no course prerequisites, but students will need to have a comfort and general competency with using a computer.

Students Will Learn

How to code in HTML
How to understand and implement good principles of UX.
How to enhance web pages using CSS
How to code basic JavaScript
How to build basic graphics
How to assess can leverage AI tools and other resources related to the technologies they will learn.

Web Design: HTML, JavaScript, and UX is a semester-long course. Registration for the Fall term opens in late February.

What to Expect Weekly

We estimate that course workload will take 5-7 hours per week. During a typical week, students complete the following coursework:

90 minutes of live class instruction
A small number of short lecture videos
A weekly reading assignment and reflection
A hands-on project using skills developed in the course
Quiz

Students complete a final project.
