Laura Priano has been teaching math at HSLDA Online Academy since 2017. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Geneva College and taught in a variety of settings, eventually retiring from full-time teaching to homeschool her own children. She is an avid baseball fan and hopes to visit every American ballpark in her lifetime.
HSLDA Online Academy: What’s a typical Saturday night like for you?
Laura Priano: When I’m not attending a kid’s activity, I like to spend Saturday nights relaxing with my family, whether that is a movie or game night, a bonfire, or a get-together with another family.
HSLDA Online Academy: What are your must-have smartphone apps?
Laura Priano: Being a math teacher, I love to use the Desmos app! I also enjoy using Marco Polo to keep in touch with friends and family, and Pocket Pitch because I love to sing.
HSLDA Online Academy: What can you cook to perfection? Are you willing to share the recipe?
Laura Priano: I make fluffy and flavorful scrambled eggs! The trick is to add salt, hot sauce, and a dash of whipping cream when beating. Make sure the pan is very hot before you add the eggs, then wait about 30 seconds before you start scrambling.
HSLDA Online Academy: If you won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, what would you do instead?
Laura Priano: I would spend as much time as possible in my backyard, gardening and reading on the deck while my kids play. I would also take my family on a few trips to finish our ballpark tour.
HSLDA Online Academy: If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
Laura Priano: We don’t know where God is going to take us, so it’s important to embrace whatever He puts in front of us, even if it’s not something we would choose for ourselves. We never know when we might need it!
