Worthy of His Calling: A Year in Reflection

Director Andrew Gonzalez shares his reflection on the completion of the 2024-2025 academic year.
Director Andrew Gonzalez

Dear Students and Parents,

At the end of another year at HSLDA Online Academy, it’s good to reflect on our purpose and mission. I often come back to these verses from Paul’s second letter to the church at Thessalonica:

“To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” -II Thess. 1:11-12 (ESV)

The Academy’s mission is that every student would be equipped for their God-given vocations, so that Christ may be glorified in them. That intention drives the digital lessons in Canvas, the weekly live classes with instructors, and the interactions between students in discussion posts. I remember when I was in high school, those routine tasks often felt like chores, but in retrospect I can see God’s hand in all of it, making me worthy of His calling. Students, I trust that God is similarly redeeming your hard work so that Christ may be glorified in you.

The 2024-2025 academic year was HSLDA Online Academy’s fifteenth year offering biblically-based courses that promote teacher-guided, parent-supported, and student-led learning. I want to personally thank you, our students, parents, and teachers, for becoming part of that legacy.

I’d also like to congratulate the students and teachers who were recognized at the Academy Showcase (our annual end-of-year gathering) this year:

Teachers:
Andrea Hardy, Faith Cruz, Heather Kipp, Leigh Ann Scott, Sara Hall, Sarah Stoub

Students:
Andrew Bobolia, Victoria Carney, Charlotte Hauser (Student of the Year runner up), Hannah Kapcoe, Katherine McDaniel, Emmeline Peltzer, Joel Phan, Cody Rietema (Student of the Year winner), Emma Kate Ross, Ohlsson Skaret (Student of the Year runner up), Brynn Yarosik

To celebrate the Academy’s fifteenth anniversary, we redesigned our website to be mobile-friendly, we launched a blog, and we increased the HSLDA Member tuition discount to 15%. We pray that these improvements would be a service and a blessing to you.

I hope that your summer break will be restful and edifying. As you find the time, think about how God worked in you this year, and what he’s calling you to in the future. Be encouraged by Paul’s blessing to the Thessalonian believers: “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.” -II Thess. 3:16 (ESV)
