Am I ready to take Algebra 1?

Students are ready to take Algebra 1 if they have had exposure to and have a working knowledge of:

  • Computational skills involved in the four basic arithmetic operations including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing negative and positive integers
  • Addition and subtraction using fractions with common and uncommon denominators
  • Multiplying and dividing fractions
  • Working with properties of algebra including the commutative, associative, and distributive properties, as well as identities, and inverse properties
  • Solving one-step equations and inequalities in one variable
  • Comparing and ordering integers, rational, and irrational numbers according to their value
