Overview
Course Description
Spanish 2 builds on the foundation laid in Spanish 1. Coursework continues to emphasize verbal skills. The live classes are still conducted in English, but with increasing amounts of Spanish. Students learn how to navigate additional real-life scenarios in Spanish, such as trips to the doctor’s office, bank, or mechanic. Students learn to read and understand non-adapted biblical texts in Spanish, including the entire Gospel of Mark in the second semester. They also read excerpts of Spanish literature.
Prerequisites
Students should have completed Spanish 1 or an equivalent course, and should be able to read and write at the 10th grade level. We offer a Spanish Placement Assessment to help families determine where students fit in the Academy Spanish program. The ultimate decision rests with parents.
Students Will Learn
- How to communicate orally in more complex social situations
- How to describe a sequence of events in the past using different past tenses
- How to use the preterite and imperfect tenses
- How to use possessive adjectives and the impersonal “se”
- How to use reflexive verbs
- How to review and expand Spanish grammar and vocabulary
Live Class Sections
Spanish 2 is a yearlong course. Registration opens in late February.
What to Expect Weekly
We estimate that the course workload will take 5–7 hours per week. During a typical week in this course, students will complete the following coursework:
- 90 minutes of live class instruction
- “Virtual classroom” recordings with guides and online flashcards
- Several short quizzes or homework exercises
- Discussion forum posts
Throughout the year, students complete Bible verse memorization exercises, an assigned speaking practice, and unit tests every four weeks.

Description
Bob Jones Spanish 2 gives an organized, in-depth study of Spanish with more advanced reading passages from the Bible. It presents practical and everyday situations for vocabulary and grammar topics, such as restaurants, hotels, and a doctor’s office.
Reason For Teaching
This textbook teaches Spanish from an unapologetically Christian worldview, is well-organized, includes Scripture memory and biblical excerpts in Spanish, and challenges students with a rigorous course of study to enable them to have conversations, write, and understand texts on a variety of topics.
