Overview
Course Description
Physics prompts students to explore general concepts such as force, energy, momentum, waves, rotation, sound, and magnetic fields. Students deepen and apply their physics knowledge through discussions, experiments, labs, and practice exercises while considering how physics informs and affects faith in God and observation of His creation. The study of physics is cumulative, building upon other subjects and itself. Students who enjoy both math and science will find physics especially fascinating.
Prerequisites
Students should complete Algebra 2 and Chemistry before taking Physics. We also recommend students complete or concurrently enroll in Pre-Calculus & Trigonometry.
Students Will Learn
- How to calculate common unit conversions
- How to create formal lab reports which include graphs of data
- How to perform trigonometric functions: sine, cosine, and tangent functions
- How to observe relationships between fundamental qualities of the universe
- How to explore and explain the universe using precise & measurable means
- How to express scientific observations clearly through words, charts, graphs, etc.
Live Class Sections
Physics (w/ lab) is a yearlong course. Registration opens in late February.
What to Expect Weekly
We estimate that the course workload will take 7–10 hours per week. During a typical week , students will complete the following:
- 90 minutes of live class instruction
- Three 10–20 minute pre-recorded lectures
- Two to four practice worksheets
- A weekly quiz, lab, or test
Students complete 7 tests, 11 laboratory experiments, and various homework assignments.

Graphing Calculator: TI-84 or equivalent (required)

The Academy recommends a TI-84 Plus CE model or comparable for those planning to pursue STEM. A full list of acceptable calculators can be found on this page of the College Board’s website.
Physics, 3rd or 4th edition (optional)

All the teaching materials and practice problems that students need for this course are built into the online interface. Only purchase the textbook if extra explanations or practice are desired and may be helpful for students planning other future courses in physics or engineering.
