Spanish Placement Assessment

Need help determining student placement in Spanish?

HSLDA Online Academy's Spanish Placement Assessment assists families to determine where their student(s) fit in the Academy Spanish program. The ultimate decision rests with parents. Students who have completed an Academy Spanish course are most likely ready for the next level.

How does my student take the Spanish Placement Assessment?

The Spanish Placement Assessment is available through a public quiz on Canvas, HSLDA Online Academy's Learning Management System. Test-takers do not need to sign in or create an account with HSLDA Online Academy. However, test results are not saved by Canvas, so families are encouraged to take a screenshot of their score.

Test questions include multiple choice, fill in the blank, and short answer. All questions are automatically graded.

Are students required to take the Spanish Placement Assessment?

No. This is an optional assessment that provides a tool for parents to help determine which HSLDA Online Academy Spanish course their student is prepared to take. The ultimate decision between courses always rests with the parents.

Please note that different Spanish courses from different programs will vary in intensity and mastery. The Academy's Spanish Placement Assessment suggests placement within HSLDA Online Academy's Spanish courses only.

How does the score determine Spanish course placement?

Once you record the score, a Scoring Guide is available in the Spanish Placement Assessment. This guide will sugget whether a student is well-prepared for Spanish 2, might be prepared for Spanish 2, or best prepared for Spanish 1 with HSLDA Online Academy.

Please note: HSLDA Online Academy recommends that students do not look at the placement guide until after they complete the Spanish Placement Assessment.

How long is the Spanish Placement Assessment?

The Spanish Placement Assessment has 77 questions and no time limits. HSLDA Online Academy estimates that students may spend 60-90 minutes completing the assessment, but times will vary for each individual student.

Can my student stop and save progress on the Spanish Placement Assessment?

While there is no time limit, closing or reloading the assessment will cause students to lose their work. HSLDA Online Academy recommends that test-takers complete the assessment in one sitting, which should take 60-90 minutes.
